Newsletter #39: The Sound Money Approach to Algorithmic BTC Yield

· Original LinkedIn post

The promise of algorithmic trading is seductive: a world where wealth is generated automatically, 24/7, free from emotional human error. This vision has drawn countless participants to the cryptocurrency markets, seeking to leverage technology for financial gain. However, the dominant strategies employed today are fraught with peril, built upon flawed models and exposing investors to catastrophic risks. This newsletter delves into the prevalent, yet precarious, algorithmic methods and presents a superior alternative grounded in the principles of sound money: Bitcoin-denominated yield.

The House of Cards: Deconstructing Flawed Algorithmic Models

Before one can build a sound investment strategy, it is crucial to understand the shaky foundations upon which most current algorithmic systems are built. We will examine three of the most popular but deeply flawed approaches.

The Casino: Derivatives and Leverage

Many algorithmic systems are not designed for investing but for high-stakes gambling. They employ leverage and derivatives to amplify returns, but this amplification works in both directions, magnifying losses to the point of total and instantaneous ruin. The market turmoil of September 2025 serves as a stark reminder of this reality, where over $3.45 billion in leveraged positions were liquidated in a single week, wiping out hundreds of thousands of traders. One trader alone lost over $29 million on a single Ethereum trade that went south.

These systems create an environment of asymmetric risk. A mere 10% adverse market movement can trigger a 100% loss with 10x leverage. This is not a sustainable path to wealth creation; it is a casino where the house, (the exchange) always wins through liquidation fees, while the player is perpetually one market swing away from financial oblivion.

The Mirage: Fiat Currency Pairs

A vast number of trading algorithms operate on a fundamentally flawed premise: measuring success in fiat currencies like the U.S. dollar. This is akin to building a skyscraper on quicksand. These strategies chase gains in an asset that is designed to depreciate over time. The U.S. dollar has lost over 96% of its purchasing power since the creation of the Federal Reserve in 1913. Gains celebrated in USD may, in reality, represent a net loss of real-world value as the currency is systematically debased through inflation and monetary policy manipulation.

Trading against fiat is like trying to fill a leaky bucket. No matter how much you pour in, the value is constantly draining away. An algorithmic strategy tethered to a depreciating asset is not a strategy for wealth preservation; it is a race to a constantly receding finish line.

The Blind Bet: Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA)

Dollar Cost Averaging is often touted as a disciplined, conservative strategy. By investing a fixed amount at regular intervals, investors can mitigate the risk of poor market timing. However, the success of DCA is entirely contingent on the long-term quality of the asset being acquired. Applying a DCA strategy to a weak or failing asset is a disciplined method for guaranteeing losses.

The vast majority of the thousands of altcoins in existence have no sound economic foundation, no real-world utility, and no prospect of long-term value accrual. Systematically buying these assets is like methodically throwing money into a bottomless well. DCA is a sound tactic only when applied to a sound asset—an asset with a high probability of appreciating over the long term. For this reason, its application should be reserved for a monetary asset with proven scarcity and network effects, like Bitcoin.

The Superior Alternative: Bitcoin-Denominated Yield

There is a more robust, logical, and sound approach to algorithmic yield generation. Instead of chasing fleeting gains in depreciating fiat currencies or gambling with leverage, the objective should be to accumulate more of the hardest monetary asset ever created: Bitcoin.

A Bitcoin-denominated yield strategy operates on a simple yet powerful principle: the goal is to increase your Bitcoin holdings. This approach offers several fundamental advantages:

•Sound Money Foundation: It aligns your investment strategy with the principle of holding a scarce, decentralized, and censorship-resistant store of value.

•Eliminates Fiat Risk: By measuring success in BTC, you sidestep the risks of currency debasement, inflation, and central bank policy that plague fiat-based systems.

•Avoids Catastrophic Risk: A true Bitcoin-yield strategy rejects the use of leverage and derivatives, focusing on the sustainable, long-term growth of your Bitcoin stack without the ever-present threat of liquidation.

•Real, Tangible Yield: The yield generated is not an illusion measured in a depreciating currency; it is a real increase in your ownership of the Bitcoin network.

Stop Gambling. Start Building.

The world of algorithmic trading is a minefield of flawed models and hidden risks. From the casino of leveraged derivatives to the mirage of fiat-denominated gains, the majority of strategies are designed to separate you from your capital. A sound investment strategy requires a sound foundation.

If you are serious about building long-term wealth and preserving your purchasing power, it is time to shift your perspective. Stop measuring your wealth in a currency designed to fail. Start measuring it in the asset designed to last.
