Edition # 12: They Told Us That We Couldn't Comprehend Investing...But They Were Wrong

For decades, Wall Street and the financial elite have pushed a single narrative: “Investing is too complicated for the average person.” They sold the idea that only a select few hedge fund managers, investment bankers, and economists had the intelligence and resources to navigate the markets successfully. You were never supposed to have the guts to think for yourself and do your own due diligence in the markets.

This is how they kept control. If they could convince you that investing required a team of experts, decades of training, and insider knowledge, then you'd never even try. You’d stay locked into their system. You’d buy their mutual funds, let them “manage” your 401(k), and trust that they knew what was best for your money.

But then something happened that changed everything: the rise of the internet and the age of self-education.

The Power of Self-Education and Why They Fear It

The internet shattered the information monopoly. Suddenly, retail investors had access to the same tools, data, and analysis that had once been reserved for institutions. Blogs, YouTube channels, online courses, trading forums, algorithmic trading platforms, and open-source financial models leveled the playing field. This level playing field is what Wall Street fears the most. When the masses wake up, Wall Street loses control.

When people educate themselves, they start asking the right questions:

Self-Education is the Greatest Threat to Their Power

The greatest fear of any centralized system is decentralization of knowledge. Once people realize they don’t need permission to invest, the floodgates open.

That’s why financial institutions lobby for regulation to limit access to certain investments. That’s why they tell you trading is too risky while they engage in high-frequency trading and derivatives speculation. That’s why they push the narrative that only professionals should use algorithmic trading while retail investors who build their own trading models are labeled “reckless.”

But the truth is clear: The more you learn, the less control they have.

The Path Forward: Take Control of Your Research/Knowledge

Here’s what they don’t want you to know:

  1. You can teach yourself everything you need to succeed. Investing, algorithmic trading, risk management—it’s all out there if you’re willing to put in the work.
  2. Algorithms aren’t just for hedge funds. With the right knowledge, retail investors can have their own algorithmic trading models.
  3. You don’t need a financial advisor to tell you what to do. You need access to data, strategies, and execution tools—all of which are now available to you.
