Last week, the U.S. Senate Banking Committee held a crucial hearing on de-banking, exposing how financial institutions are systematically cutting off services to individuals and businesses based on opaque and discriminatory criteria. For many, this was a revelation.
For my company, Halfacre Research, it was an experience we lived firsthand.
My Company Was De-banked
In June/July 2024, Halfacre Research was debanked. The debanking was not for fraud, not for violating regulations, and not for any legitimate concerns, but for simply conducting our normal business operations and exercising our right to invest in the asset classes that we see fit.
The bank called me in for a meeting. They told me outright that they didn’t want us converting $50,000 into crypto because it was "too risky." They tried to dissuade us from the transaction, pushing us to reconsider.
I told them no. It was our business, our capital, and we were making the move.
They immediately informed me that they were shutting down Halfacre Research’s accounts. They gave us three days to get our affairs in order before the shutdown took effect.
No legal violations. No fraud. Just financial censorship—punishment for making a legal financial decision outside the traditional system.
Fast forward to today: That $50,000 worth of Bitcoin is now worth a little $75,000. Had we listened to them, we’d be $25,000 poorer.
The Senate Hearing: A Reckoning for Traditional Banks?
On February 5, 2025, the Senate Banking Committee grilled banking executives and regulators about the growing trend of debanking. Anchorage Digital, Old Glory Bank, and other firms testified, revealing how businesses and individuals are being locked out of the financial system without clear justification.
- Bitcoin companies? Debanked.
- Political figures deemed “high risk”? Accounts closed.
- Independent financial firms challenging the system? Silenced financially.
Yet, the same banks that claim Bitcoin is “too risky” routinely launder billions for criminals and terrorist organizations—and face nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
De-banking is About Control, Not Risk
This isn’t about fraud prevention. It’s about control.
Traditional banks decide who gets access to financial services. If they don’t like how you’re using your money, they will cut you off.
This is why Bitcoin exists.
Bitcoin doesn’t care what your bank thinks is “risky.” It doesn’t require permission from a compliance officer. It is censorship-resistant, borderless, and immune to financial gatekeepers.
Bitcoin is the Exit Strategy
The financial elite have made it clear: If you challenge their monopoly, you will be shut out.
But here’s the good news: We don’t have to play their game anymore.
At Halfacre Research, we’re providing real tools for financial independence. Our algorithmic trading models help you optimize Bitcoin accumulation and secure your financial future outside the traditional system.
Where Do We Go From Here?
The Senate hearing was a wake-up call, but don’t expect politicians to fix this. If anything, expect more restrictions, more surveillance, and more financial censorship as the government pushes for central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and tighter regulations.
The solution isn’t trying to fix a broken system—it’s building a better one.
